Welcome to the Big Black Creek Historical Association!
The Big Black Creek Historical Association (BBCHA) was founded in 2006
with the express purpose to identify, preserve and promote historical sites with
the communities of Denmark, Mercer, Leighton and Woodland, all small towns
West of Jackson, TN.
Please check the site often as we will be adding new pictures and historical facts about the area and past inhabitants on a regular basis.
Thank you for visiting.
The BBCHA's name came from the Big Black Creek, a waterway that figured prominently in the early settlement of the area and the American Civil War.
The BBCHA is a 501(c)3 organization and was organized and is run by an all-volunteer organization. All contributions to the BBCHA are invested in the restoration of historic sites in these areas.
In 2007 the organization began work to restore the Denmark Presbyterian Church for use as a museum. Efforts are also underway to restore several cemeteries, historic homes and The Mercer BBCHA's meeting place in the old Mercer Presbyterian Church pictured above.
The BBCHA meets on the last Thursday of each month at the Mercer Presbyterian Church in Mercer, TN at 7:00 p.m. You don’t need to be a member to join us as we preserve the history of these important communities.
